un-googling.

Written by admin on November 2, 2007 – 9:56 am -

I realized that I have been clicking on Wikipedia as the first result in my google searches.  So I did something to eliminate the first step.  Now, I have set Wikipedia as the default search engine in my browser.  I haven’t missed the Google yet….

GoogleCom

Written by admin on July 20, 2007 – 2:57 pm -

I keep harping about how Google is going to become a telecommunications company, and here is more evidence that this is happening. They are now putting their fat little fingers into the spectrum auction pie. Yum… (Don’t be evil!)

Google Shenanigans 1.2

Written by admin on June 22, 2007 – 9:58 pm -

Seems like the uber-nerds at Google are up to some new shenanigans. Their latest target in their “don’t be too evil” global campaign is destroying copyright and censorship on their public policy blog.  I say go for it.  They have the money to shake things up, instead of buying totally useless companies (viz. Dodgeball, wtf?!?).  Let’s hope they do stir things up a little bit.  Meanwhile they are taking pictures of us in our underwear and putting them on the Internet.  Timely, especially since they are on this anti-IP/censorship kick.  Look, if they want to put pictures of me in my y-fronts online, god bless ‘em.

Greasing the Gears.

Greasing the Gears. Google’s new Gears project is perfect for Greasemonkey. I wonder when someone will grease the gears.

“helicopter Cincinnati”

Written by admin on June 6, 2007 – 7:59 am -

I was just listening to a google talk entitled “from text to meaning” and they mentioned to using the string “helicopter Cincinnati” to eliminate bad query data.  Any ideas why?

Google Gears Grinds

Written by admin on May 31, 2007 – 10:55 pm -

Google has released a lot of new things for their public relations developer day. I was on hand for the first talk about Google Gears. This product is admittedly very cool. It is an open source javascript library to store in a client-side SQL Lite DB, online content, thus making it browsable offline. This type of stuff gets my nerd juices flowing. That said, this product would be fantastic for any mobile phone with a browser that supports javascript. For example, if you go on the tube and lose signal, you wouldn’t lose your Gmail that you were writing.

Somebody asked about mobile and they said “we don’t talk about plans” or some crap.

So I asked, is there any chance it will work on Opera Mobile. (It is almost working on Opera.) Same bloody answer.

Then I realized, that answer means that they are working on it. Other questions that they weren’t actually working on, they would say, “That’s a good idea, let’s talk about that during one of our meals here at the conference.” There was lunch and brunch and snacks.

Viacom sues Google and YouTube for $1bn

The media group is attempting to stop Google and YouTube from uploading unauthorised content by launching a $1 billion lawsuit..

Scooby doo not surprised….

This is another great example of a business model built on theft. Like Napster, YouTube will be fighting an uphill battle.

Free Google Ads.

Written by admin on January 31, 2007 – 2:29 pm -

This is interesting:

Google is giving away free adwords ads to the people patronizing businesses using their Mountain View wireless network.

So they are finally tipping their hand’s This is how the “free” network is going to work See, it is not “free” the advertisers are going to pay for it.

if ((Cost of network – (Revenue per user * number of users)) > 0) {

wireless = “free”;

}

I can sort that out.

A Server “Farm”?

Written by admin on January 22, 2007 – 8:41 pm -

This new Google cropland looks like a great place to plant some Elephant Grass or Switch Grass to power a server room.

Hmm….

Watch this space!
